Soccer Game Preview: Lutheran vs. Springfield Southeast

The Lutheran Crusaders will venture away from home to challenge the Springfield Southeast Spartans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lutheran's last three matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Friday just wasn't the day for Lutheran's offense. They fell just short of Unity Christian by a score of 1-0 on Friday. Lutheran haven't had much luck with Unity Christian recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Springfield Southeast). They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over Decatur Eisenhower on Thursday. Springfield Southeast haven't had any issues with Decatur Eisenhower recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Springfield Southeast's offense was hitting Decatur Eisenhower from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Anika Meinkoth led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for three goals all by herself.

Lutheran's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Springfield Southeast, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Everything went Lutheran's way against Springfield Southeast in their previous matchup back in March of 2018, as Lutheran made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lutheran since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
