The Springboro Panthers will head out to face off against the Mercy McAuley Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Mercy McAuley will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Springboro extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past Fairmont 3-0.
While Springboro might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Fairmont scored at least 21 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-23, 25-21.
Springboro found their leader in sophomore Reagan Dearth, who had 11 digs and two assists. Arianna Thornton also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.
Springboro was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in three consecutive matchups.
Mercy McAuley not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since August 28th (when they won 3-0). They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Wyoming.
While Mercy McAuley won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-19, 25-19.
Mercy McAuley's win came from a few key players Springboro will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Devin Carter, who had 16 digs and two aces. Aubrey Blanton was another key player, getting 15 digs.
Springboro's record now sits at 11-4. As for Mercy McAuley, their record is now 5-11.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's contest: Springboro has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Mercy McAuley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
