Softball Game Preview: San Leandro Pirates vs. Maria Carrillo Pumas

The San Leandro Pirates will head out to challenge the Maria Carrillo Pumas at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. San Leandro's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Maria Carrillo's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

San Leandro is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Arroyo. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since March 26th.

Meanwhile, while Maria Carrillo put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Heritage. The Pumas blew past the Patriots 9-0. The result was nothing new for the Pumas, who have now won nine matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Paige Richards, who gave up just four hits to keep Heritage off the board.

At the plate, Maria Carrillo let Alivia Vetter and Erin Kelleher run wild. Vetter went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Kelleher went 2-for-3 with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachaely Yaya, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Maria Carrillo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.

The win made it two in a row for San Leandro and bumps their season record up to 20-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Maria Carrillo, their record is now 15-10.
