Basketball Recap: Mesquite Comes Up Short

Mesquite was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 73-71 heartbreaker at the hands of the Waxahachie Indians. While losing is never fun, the Skeeters can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 425th, while the Indians are ranked 91st).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Waxahachie to victory, but perhaps none more so than Eddie Williams, who went 10 for 14 en route to 22 points and five rebounds. Williams is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Bradley, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 17 points and six assists.

Mesquite's loss dropped their record down to 9-19. As for Waxahachie, their win bumped their record up to 16-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mesquite will face off against DeSoto at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. DeSoto knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Mesquite likes a good challenge. As for Waxahachie, they will square off against Duncanville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Duncanville will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Waxahachie surely won't give up without a fight.
