Basketball Recap: Basic Comes Up Short

Basic has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-43 heartbreaker at the hands of the Canyon Springs Pioneers. The Wolves were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pioneers earlier this season, when they won 52-49.

When it comes to explaining why Basic lost on Wednesday, don't look at Kamilyah (Star) Williams. Despite the final result, she posted 23 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Those 23 points gave Williams a new career-high. Tatum Meatoga was another key player, putting up five points and seven boards.

Canyon Springs got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ariyanah Custard out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. Custard is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Legardy, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 19 boards.

Basic's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Canyon Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season.

Basic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Canyon Springs, they will challenge Cimarron-Memorial at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
