Preview: Palo Duro Dons vs. Canutillo Eagles
The Palo Duro Dons will head out on the road to face off against the Canutillo Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Palo Duro can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They blew past Plainview, posting a 41-14 win at home.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Palo Duro's defense and their five sacks. In that department, Tye'leik Foster was the leader with two sacks.
Meanwhile, Canutillo entered their tilt with El Paso with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Canutillo didn't even let El Paso onto the board and left with a 62-0 win on Thursday. Canutillo might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won six contests by 28 points or more this season.
Canutillo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jeremiah Knox out in front who threw for 92 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Jose Arzola got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Palo Duro to 4-5 and Canutillo to 8-2.
Palo Duro took a serious blow against Canutillo when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 28-0. Thankfully for Palo Duro, Lj Martin (who rushed for 275 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.8 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
