Softball Recap: St. John XXIII Lions vs. Lanier Voks

St. John XXIII was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Lanier on Saturday. The St. John XXIII Lions put the hurt on the Lanier Voks with a sharp 13-1 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Lions needed considering they were shutout in their previous game.

Alexa Ramirez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in February of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, St. John XXIII got a massive performance out of Emma Morrison, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs Morrison has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grace Miles, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

St. John XXIII always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lanier only posted an OBP of .333.

The win got St. John XXIII back to even at 1-1. As for Lanier, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

St. John XXIII will square off against Houston Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lanier, they will face off against Sam Houston at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Lanier has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
