Softball Recap: Assumption Extends Winning Streak to Six

Assumption won against Newman Catholic on Thursday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Royals beat the Aquinas Blugolds by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. With that win, the Royals brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Ari Cavanaugh made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elayna Aue, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Rylee Stublaski also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Assumption was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory (which was Assumption's sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Aquinas, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Coincidentally, Assumption and Aquinas will both be playing Lourdes Academy the next time they take the field. The Blugolds will host the Knights at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, while the Royals will play them later in the day, at 3:30 p.m.
