Baseball Recap: Mayfield Comes Up Short

Mayfield managed to slip by Ballard Memorial the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Cardinals lost 9-3 to the Bombers on Thursday. The Cardinals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bombers earlier this season, when they won 12-11.

Gray Robbins and Briar Overstreet did some serious damage despite the final result: Robbins went 4-for-5 with three runs and one RBI, while Overstreet went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Tucker Dunn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Mayfield has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Ballard Memorial, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-17.

Coming up, Mayfield will square off against Crittenden County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Ballard Memorial, they will venture away from home to challenge Paducah Tilghman at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Tornado's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Bombers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
