Baseball Game Preview: Southside Seahawks vs. Jones Trojans

For the second straight game, Southside will face off against Jones. The Seahawks will head out to take on the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

While Southside's victory against Jones wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Seahawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Trojans on Tuesday. The Seahawks haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Luke Bullock tossed a big game, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Southside is 2-1 when Bullock posts ten or more strikeouts, but 3-9 otherwise.

At the plate, John Davis was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Brenen Whaley was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Southside's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Jones, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-9.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Southside has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Jones struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.6 strikeouts.
