Softball Recap: Legacy Snags Sixth Win in Last Eight Games

Legacy hadn't done well against Desert Oasis recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Legacy blew past Desert Oasis 16-1. For the Longhorns, this counts as revenge for the 9-8 victory the Diamondbacks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2022.

Elena Rodriguez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Rodriguez was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Madison Castellon was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Fernanda Barrios, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.

Legacy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.8.

Legacy has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. Desert Oasis' loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-3-1.

Coming up, Legacy will welcome Cimarron-Memorial at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Desert Oasis, they will face off against Chaparral at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Desert Oasis' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
