The Judge Memorial Catholic Bulldogs will square off against the Layton Christian Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Judge Memorial Catholic: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Layton Christian Academy has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Judge Memorial Catholic and Providence Hall meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Bulldogs took a 21-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots.
Although Judge Memorial Catholic took the loss, they still got scores from Michael Gibbons and Maverick Middleton.
Meanwhile, Layton Christian Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over South Summit on Friday, taking the game 29-16.
Layton Christian Academy's win came from a few key players Judge Memorial Catholic will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Chris Munroe, who rushed for 53 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries, and also threw for 155 yards and one TD on only 12 passes. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in August of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jerome Vito, who picked up 106 receiving yards and one score.
Layton Christian Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 246 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 246 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Layton Christian Academy's defense and their three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Lj Report. He has become a key player for Layton Christian Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one sack, but 1-2 otherwise. Mark Montgomery was another major factor on D, making eight total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception.
Judge Memorial Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Layton Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Judge Memorial Catholic was dealt a bruising 35-0 loss at the hands of Layton Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. Thankfully for the Bulldogs, Kaya Madhlazi (who rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
