Preview: Jones Trojans vs. Washington Montessori Eagles
The Jones Trojans will be home for the holidays to greet the Washington Montessori Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Jones has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 456 points over their last seven games.
Jones pushed their score all the way to 61 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of North Duplin by a score of 64-61. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Tuesday (58), Jones still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Keonte' Roberts , who shot 4-for-5 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 assists. He scored a full 39.3% of Jones' points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Butler, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Jones were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Washington Montessori, who are still winless after their fifth match. They took a serious blow against Ocracoke two weeks ago, falling 85-42. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Washington Montessori in their matchups with Ocracoke: they've now lost four in a row.
Jones' loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Washington Montessori, they bumped their record down to 0-5 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Jones strolled past Washington Montessori in their previous meeting back in November by a score of 63-44. Will Jones repeat their success, or does Washington Montessori have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
