Baseball Recap: Dwyer Comes Up Short

Dwyer was the 3-0 winner over Seminole Ridge when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Dwyer Panthers took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Seminole Ridge Hawks on Thursday. The game marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Dwyer got a good showing from Brayton Torchia, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Torchia has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Dwyer saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miguel Marrero, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Marrero hit this season.

Dwyer is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4. As for Seminole Ridge, their record is now 7-5.

Dwyer and Seminole Ridge could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Dwyer will challenge Cardinal Newman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday down 312 places (317 vs. 5). Dwyer has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. Similarly, Seminole Ridge (ranked 225th) will meet Vero Beach (ranked 20th) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
