Recap: Northwest Whitfield Bruins vs. Central Lions
The Northwest Whitfield Bruins lost against the Central Lions back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Northwest Whitfield suffered a tough 42-20 defeat at the hands of Central. It was the first time this season that Northwest Whitfield let down their fans at home.
Despite the defeat, Northwest Whitfield saw an underclassman step up: Gavin Nuckolls rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 195 yards and a touchdown.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jonaz Walton, who rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Jr Harris was another key contributor, rushing for 73 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Another reason for the win was Central's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Caden Morehead and Eric Moore who racked up five sacks between them.
Northwest Whitfield's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Central, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwest Whitfield will square off against Cedartown at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cedartown knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Northwest Whitfield likes a good challenge. As for Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Heritage will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 209th, while Central is ranked 58th).
