Softball Recap: Colbert County Starts off Right with Win over East Lawrence

Colbert County had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the East Lawrence Eagles a 9-0 shutout on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.

The result came thanks to Makayli Davis's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 15 Ks. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Harmonie McClain was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February of 2024. Andrea Hacker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

East Lawrence dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Colbert County will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Lawrence, they will face off against Lawrence County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lawrence County's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so East Lawrence's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
