Volleyball Recap: Avon Lake Starts off Right with Win over Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin

Avon Lake had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They won by a set and slipped past the Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Lions 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Shoremen have posted since September 28, 2024.

Avon Lake wouldn't go down easily and took Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin into a fifth set where they got it done with a ten-point win. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-19, 25-18, 24-26, 15-5.

Avon Lake can attribute much of their success to Charlotte Preto, who had seven digs and six aces. Preto has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last four times she's played.

Preto wasn't the only good server: Avon Lake was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in four consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Coming up, Avon Lake will face off against Midview at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Shoremen's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin, they will challenge Mentor at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
