Basketball Recap: Corona/Vaughn's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to 13

Corona/Vaughn had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.6 points) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Friday. They blew past the Mountainair Mustangs, posting a 58-14 win. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 contests by 23 points or more this season.

Corona/Vaughn found their leader in sophomore Harper Dunn, who almost dropped a triple-double with 16 points, 21 rebounds, and nine blocks. Dunn's big performance that evening made it 12 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Kassidy Lightfoot, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists.

Corona/Vaughn smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

Corona/Vaughn's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-3. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.4 points on average over those games. As for Mountainair, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-19.

Coming up, Corona/Vaughn will face off against Logan at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Corona/Vaughn's defense has only allowed 26.3 points per game this season, so Logan's offense will have their work cut out for them. Mountainair does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
