Basketball Game Preview: Coral Springs Colts vs. Southridge Spartans

The Coral Springs Colts will face off against the Southridge Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Coral Springs knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Southridge likes a good challenge.

Coral Springs heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Friday. They took a 72-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Thomas Aquinas. The loss continues a trend for the Colts in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the defeat, Coral Springs got top-tier performance from Alex Pierre-Louis, who went 10 for 19 on his way to 22 points and five rebounds. Pierre-Louis' evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Jevah Chervin was another key player, putting up nine points.

Meanwhile, Southridge entered their tilt with Coral Park on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 54-50 W against the Rams. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Rams are ranked 242nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Southridge had a senior duo take command as Deandre Hardy dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards and O'Cien Valdes went 7 of 16 en route to 16 points. Those ten rebounds gave Hardy a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mykel Underwood, who posted seven points.

Coral Springs' loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Southridge, their victory bumped their record up to 17-7.
