Baseball Recap: Sabino Comes Up Short

Sabino extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 1-14. They lost 8-0 to the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Sabercats of the 12-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for Mica Mountain, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-12. They not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 16th (when they won 10-0).

For Mica Mountain's part, Cole Lohrenz looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Lohrenz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Nathan Ramirez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two triples, and three runs. He has become a key player for Mica Mountain: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11 otherwise. Wyatt Almand was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sabino will welcome Tanque Verde at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mica Mountain, they will host Salpointe Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Thunderbolts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
