Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hoehne). They breezed by the Walsenburg Panthers to the tune of 85-47 on Friday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 56-18 back in December of 2024.
Hoehne got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nathan Zamora out in front who went 7 of 14 on his way to 18 points and eight steals. Zamora is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bobby Terry, who went 7 for 11 en route to 14 points along with five boards and four blocks.
Hoehne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Despite the loss, Walsenburg saw an underclassman step up: freshman Christian Maestas posted 11 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Vallejos, who had six points in addition to nine rebounds and three steals.
Hoehne moved to 4-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Walsenburg, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
Hoehne is taking a road trip to take on Fowler at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Walsenburg has already played their next matchup (against Primero), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
