Basketball Game Preview: Mackay Miners vs. Watersprings

The Mackay Miners will head out on the road to challenge Watersprings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Mackay was handed a heart-breaking three-point defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Sho-Ban on Friday. Mackay simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Sho-Ban 65-29. The victory continues a trend for the Miners in their matchups with the Chiefs: they've now won six in a row.

It was another big night for Kaizer Summers, who dropped a double-double with 31 points and 14 boards. That's the most points he has posted since back in January of 2024. Cooper Holt was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds.

Mackay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Watersprings waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They breezed past the Mustangs to the tune of 59-22. Watersprings has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Mackay pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.4 points over those games. As for Watersprings, their record now sits at 18-3.

Mackay didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Watersprings in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 49-45 victory. Will Mackay repeat their success, or does Watersprings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
