It was a proper cat-fight when Hawley duked it out with Anson on Monday. The Bearcats blew past the Tigers 10-1. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by nine runs or more this season.
Alek Southerland was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Southerland was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Hawley got a massive performance out of Drew Siller, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Siller a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Jake Bristow, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Hawley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Anson, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-7.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hawley is set to take on their familiar foe Stamford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Anson will challenge rival Albany at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
