Baseball Recap: Gretna Comes Up Short

Gretna made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Papillion-LaVista, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Dragons fell just short of the Monarchs by a score of 2-0 on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Monarchs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-3 back in April.

Hudson Schwartzkopf was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.

Gretna's defeat dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Papillion-LaVista, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-10.

Looking ahead, Gretna will face off against Bellevue West at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Thunderbirds' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Dragons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Papillion-LaVista, they will challenge Omaha Central at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Monarchs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
