Softball Recap: Decatur Central Takes a Loss

Decatur Central dropped their record down to 6-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Plainfield Quakers, falling 11-0. The Hawks were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matches prior), but the Quakers' pitchers proved too tough.

Decatur Central got a good showing from Reese Chapman, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Chapman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

As for Plainfield, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

On Plainfield's side, Kami Arnett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Arnett was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.

In other batting news, Ayva Mayes was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Kylie Fish, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Decatur Central will challenge Noblesville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Plainfield, they will be taking part in a tournament against Lafayette Jefferson at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
