Softball Recap: Colts Neck Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Colts Neck ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past the Middletown North Lions 2-1. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 4-0 victory two weeks ago.

Angela Sasso made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over eight innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

Sasso wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gabby Bryce, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Ellie Mager also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Colts Neck has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Middletown North, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.

Coming up, Colts Neck will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Middletown South at 4:00 p.m. As for Middletown North, they will challenge Barnegat at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
