Football Game Preview: Manor Mustangs vs. McNeil Mavericks

The Manor Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the McNeil Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Manor comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 44-10, which was the final score in Manor's tilt against Vista Ridge on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 659th, while the Rangers are ranked 132nd).

Camden Huff put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 102 yards and one score on only seven carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between McNeil and Cedar Ridge, and Cedar Ridge kept the tradition alive. The Mavericks fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 38-35 on Friday.

Manor will have to keep a close watch on Jarell Gary Jr and Zylen Hall, a pair of players who had a big impact on McNeil's prior game. Gary Jr rushed for 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, while Hall rushed for 126 yards and two TDs on only eight carries.

Manor's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for McNeil, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Manor has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 163.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like McNeil struggles in that department as they've been averaging 231.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
