Softball Recap: Brookside Cardinals vs. Wellington Dukes

Brookside had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 4-13 to make it six. They fell just short of the Wellington Dukes by a score of 16-15. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dukes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Brookside got a massive performance out of Miya Menko, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Lily Schremp was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

As for Wellington, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 2-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 14, 2025.

On Wellington's side, they got a massive performance out of Caedyn Wacker, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those four runs gave Wacker a new career-high. Keira Phillips also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Coincidentally, Brookside and Wellington will both be playing Black River the next time they take the field. The Cardinals will host the Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Dukes will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
