Baseball Game Preview: Prairie Pirates vs. Potlatch Loggers

Prairie and Potlatch are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Pirates will be playing at home against the Loggers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Prairie knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Potlatch likes a good challenge.

Prairie is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Clearwater Valley just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 21-10 to the Rams. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Pirates have suffered since April 4th.

Carter Shears made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Prairie's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Chris Schumacher was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

15 must be Potlatch's lucky number: they beat Lapwai with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Loggers beat the Wildcats by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 15-5. Considering the Loggers have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Potlatch pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Prairie, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
