Basketball Game Preview: Burke Bulldogs vs. Omaha South Packers

The Burke Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Omaha South Packers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Burke will come in still looking for their first win of the season.

Last Tuesday, Burke took a blow against Papillion-LaVista South, falling 73-29. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Titans are ranked 63rd).

Despite the loss, Burke had strong showings from Hevin Ketchum, who posted 14 points, and Hailey Pitzl, who had six points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Pitzl a new career-high in rebounds.

Meanwhile, Omaha South played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Omaha Central 72-23. The defeat continues a trend for the Packers in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.

Despite the loss, Omaha South saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aubrey Harper put up 15 points and six rebounds. That was a full 65.2% of Omaha South's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Omaha South's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Burke, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

Burke came up short against Omaha South when the teams last played last Monday, falling 49-43. Can Burke avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
