Baseball Recap: New Ulm Drops Highest Score of Season Against Belle Plaine

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Ulm). They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Belle Plaine Tigers on Tuesday. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Kolton Achman tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Zach Hubbard was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Dirk Haynes, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

New Ulm was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

New Ulm's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Belle Plaine, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Ulm will square off against Worthington at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.69 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Belle Plaine, they will take on Sibley East at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
