Preview: Juarez Eagles vs. Morgan Park Academy Warriors
The Juarez Eagles will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Morgan Park Academy Warriors at 1:00 p.m. on December 28th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two weeks ago, Juarez earned a 48-35 win over South Shore International. The victory was just what Juarez needed coming off of a 74-30 defeat in their prior contest.
Juarez's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Yasmin Hernandez led the charge by scoring 17 points. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Emily Flores, who scored 14 points.
Morgan Park Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 29 points or more this season. They blew past Golder 61-18 on the road. Morgan Park Academy's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Morgan Park Academy found their leader in underclassman Tiara Williams, who almost dropped a triple-double on 29 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least 25% of Morgan Park Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Sheppard, who scored 17 points.
Juarez's win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-6. As for Morgan Park Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Juarez was taken down by Morgan Park Academy 59-28 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Can Juarez avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
