Basketball Preview: Hunter-Tannersville Wildcats vs. Milford Central Wildcats

The Hunter-Tannersville Wildcats's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Milford Central Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on February 5th. Hunter-Tannersville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 772nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 321st).

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 71-29, which was the final score in Hunter-Tannersville's tilt against the Eagles last Wednesday. Hunter-Tannersville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-13.

Meanwhile, Milford Central waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They claimed a resounding 78-19 win over Sharon Springs Central at home. Milford Central's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Milford Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Christian Lawson, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Lawson is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Carter Stevens was another key contributor, dropping a triple-double on ten points, ten assists, and ten steals.

Hunter-Tannersville's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Milford Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

Hunter-Tannersville might still be hurting after the 71-45 defeat they got from the Wildcats in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hunter-Tannersville was down 41-17.
