Softball Recap: Spring Grove Sets Scoring Season-High Against Lyle/Pacelli

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Spring Grove). They never let the Lyle/Pacelli Athletics get on the board and left with a 22-0 victory on Tuesday. The Lions have beaten the Athletics the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Athletics has come to flipping the script.

Claire Sherburne made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Brinley Middendorf was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jada Strinmoen, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Spring Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .818. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win got Spring Grove back to even at 9-9. As for Lyle/Pacelli, their loss was their 22nd straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Spring Grove beat the Athletics by a score of 3-1 later that day.
