Baseball Recap: Lordstown Red Devils vs. Maplewood Rockets        
        
		
            
 Lordstown was not able to break out of their rough patch  on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight  defeat. Their  rough  18-4 loss to the Maplewood Rockets  might stick with them for a while. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Lordstown of the  9-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture  back in April of 2023.
 For Maplewood's part, they got a great performance from  Ethan Nelson as he  struck out six batters over  five innings while giving up just two earned  (and two unearned) runs off   four  hits (and only one walk).
 On the hitting side, Maplewood let  Tyson Webster and  Gabe Erwin loose on the outfield. Webster  scored four  runs and  stole two bases while  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances, while  Erwin  scored three  runs and  stole a base while going 3-for-4. Erwin has been hot recently, having posted  at least one  stolen base the last three times he's  played. The team also got some help courtesy of  Marshall Eloph, who  scored three  runs while going 1-for-3.
 Lordstown's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Maplewood, they have  been performing  well recently as they've  won four of their last five matchups,  which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record  this season.
 Lordstown will head out on the road to  square off against  Pymatuning Valley at 5:00  p.m.  on Friday. As for Maplewood, they will be playing at home against St. John at 11:00  a.m.  on Saturday. Both teams will come into the  match having just posted big wins, so someone is set to suffer a big change in fortunes.
