Basketball Recap: Highlands Ranch Takes a Loss

Highlands Ranch lost against Chaparral back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Highlands Ranch Falcons were beaten by the Chaparral Wolverines 79-50. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Wolverines are ranked fourth).

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Luke Bakken, who posted nine points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooks Hamlett, who scored seven points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Highlands Ranch smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Leading Chaparral to victory were Luke Williams and Luke Howery. Williams almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, ten rebounds, and nine blocks, while Howery almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. Williams has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Christian Williams was another key player, putting up ten points along with seven boards and four steals.

Highlands Ranch has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Chaparral, they pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Highlands Ranch will welcome Douglas County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Highlands Ranch is facing Douglas County at the right time seeing as Douglas County is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Chaparral, they will venture away from home to challenge Rock Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chaparral knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Rock Canyon likes a good challenge.
