Basketball Recap: Tan Nguyen Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Mission Vista

Oceanside won the last time they faced Mission Vista and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Oceanside Pirates managed a 62-57 victory over Mission Vista. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Oceanside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tan Nguyen, who went 7 of 12 en route to 19 points and five assists. That's the most points Nguyen has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaeliin Watts, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 19 points.

The victory got Oceanside back to even at 11-11. As for Mission Vista, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-18 record this season.

Oceanside is taking a road trip to challenge Sage Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sage Creek will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Oceanside surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mission Vista, they will welcome Canyon Crest Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Canyon Crest Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Mission Vista likes a good challenge.
