Baseball Game Preview: Leigh Longhorns vs. Pioneer Mustangs

The Leigh Longhorns will face off against the Pioneer Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Leigh will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

If Leigh beats Pioneer with seven runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Longhorns came out on top in a nail-biter against Santa Cruz on Saturday, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Longhorns have posted since February 28th.

Lance Takamura was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Kim, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Leigh was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Santa Teresa typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Pioneer proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Saints. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Leigh's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Pioneer, their record now sits at 7-8.

Leigh came out on top in a nail-biter against Pioneer in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Longhorns since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
