Basketball Recap: Douglas Piles Up the Points Against Bisbee

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Douglas). They claimed a resounding 57-30 victory over the Bisbee Pumas. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Bulldogs had established a 26-point advantage.

It was another big night for Carolina Anguiano, who dropped a double-double with 29 points and 16 boards. Those 29 points gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Vivivana Grijalva, who posted nine points and three steals.

Several Pumas players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alyssa Lopez, who earned 12 points and three steals. That was a full 40% of Bisbee's points, marking the third time in a row Lopez has scored more than a third of the team's points. Nicole Ceja was another key player, putting up four points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Douglas has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.6 points on average over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Bisbee fell to 2-1.

Douglas will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Thatcher at 5:30 p.m. on January 8, 2026. As for Bisbee, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-51 win against Baboquivari on the 11th.
