Baseball Recap: Mcallen Memorial Wins Going Away Against Vela

McAllen Memorial won the last time they faced Vela and things went their way on Friday too. McAllen Memorial put the hurt on Vela with a sharp 8-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Eloy Lozano was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for McAllen Memorial: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Emilio Preza, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Lozano wasn't the only one working in the hit department: McAllen Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for McAllen Memorial: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.

McAllen Memorial now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Vela, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.
