Preview: Layton Christian Academy Eagles vs. North Summit Braves
Layton Christian Academy is 1-6 against North Summit since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Layton Christian Academy Eagles are on the road again and play against the North Summit Braves at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 13 more assists than your opponent, a fact Layton Christian Academy proved on Saturday. They put the hurt on Ogden with a sharp 51-25 win.
Layton Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Asmin Tanhan, who scored 11 points along with 8 rebounds. Tanhan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now stole two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Saez, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, North Summit put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Morgan by a score of 59-48. Given North Summit's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Morgan is ranked 98th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Summit to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hartlynn Richins, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 11 assists. The match was Richins' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Presley Peterson, who scored 16 points along with 7 rebounds.
Layton Christian Academy's victory bumped their season record to 3-4 while Ogden's loss dropped theirs to 2-4.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Layton Christian Academy haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 0 turnovers per game. It's a different story for North Summit, though, as they've been averaging 14.7 per game. Given Layton Christian Academy's sizeable advantage in that area, North Summit will need to find a way to close that gap. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Layton Christian Academy beat North Summit 68-58 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Layton Christian Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
