Basketball Recap: Leonard Gets the Win

Leonard's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 66-63 win over the Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars. For the Lancers, this counts as revenge for the 59-45 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2024.

Leonard found their leader in sophomore Matthew Shedd, who went 7-for-11 to rack up 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals. Shedd is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Lopez, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Leonard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Leonard's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Leonard will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Sports Leadership & Management at 6:00 p.m. on December 1. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, they will challenge Seminole Ridge at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
