The El Camino Wildcats will square off against the Coastal Academy Stingrays at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Tuesday, El Camino got the win against University City by a conclusive 10-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Kailey Stanford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, El Camino got a big performance out of Ai'Lynnd A'Ano, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits A'Ano has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Bianca Rocha, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
A'Ano wasn't the only one making solid contact: El Camino kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The Wildcats are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Coastal Academy made easy work of Bishop's on Wednesday and carried off a 9-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Stingrays in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.
Coastal Academy also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Therese Frazer gave up three earned runs on nine hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Frazer.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sunday Mcduffee, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season. Ava Alvarez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
El Camino's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Coastal Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. El Camino has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Coastal Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
