Basketball Recap: Bryce Mella's Big Game Can't Quite Lead American Fork over Pleasant Grove

American Fork lost against Pleasant Grove back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The American Fork Cavemen took a 53-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pleasant Grove Vikings.

Several Cavemen players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryce Mella, who went 5 for 12 en route to 14 points. Another player making a difference was Sven Hansen, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 11 points and seven rebounds.

Milo Johansson was the offensive standout of the match as he went 5 for 9 en route to 10 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds. Hudson Guthrie was another key player, putting up ten points.

American Fork has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Pleasant Grove, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-11.

American Fork will challenge Lone Peak at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lone Peak is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.1 points per game this season. As for Pleasant Grove, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Westlake at 7:30 p.m. Pleasant Grove also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 60.9 points per game.
