Volleyball Recap: Port Charlotte Gets the Win

With a playoff win on the line, Port Charlotte rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Cypress Creek Coyotes 3-2. The Pirates have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Coyotes, too.

Port Charlotte had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-23, 15-8.

Sammi Jo Colburn was the offensive standout of the contest as she had 14 digs and four assists. Jazmine Vellos also deserves some recognition as she had her first dig of the season.

Port Charlotte was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Cypress Creek lost, don't look at Elena Cupitra. Despite the final result, she had 11 digs and one assist.

Port Charlotte's win ended a three-match drought on the road and puts them at 12-16. As for Cypress Creek, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four matches and leaves them with a 11-9 record.

Port Charlotte didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-2 victory against St. Petersburg on the 25th. Cypress Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
