Volleyball Recap: Vinton County Vikings vs. Gallia Academy Blue Devils
If Vinton County was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of McClain on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Vikings came up short against the Gallia Academy Blue Devils on Thursday, falling 3-0. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2020.
The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Gallia Academy scored at least 17 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-18, 25-17.
Kaylyn Fri paced Vinton County's offense, picking up four kills. Fri got some help from Mallory Bledsoe and her 12 assists. Finally, Bledsoe was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high five blocks.
Gallia Academy can attribute much of their success to Ari Rice, who had nine digs and three aces. That's the most aces Rice has posted since back in September.
Vinton County has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season. As for Gallia Academy, the win keeps them at an undefeated 23-0.
Vinton County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gallia Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-2 victory against Logan Elm on the 22nd.
