Football Recap: Silver Lake Piles Up the Points Against Ansley/Litchfield

A well-balanced attack led Silver Lake over Ansley/Litchfield in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Mustangs blew the Spartans out of the water with a 34-0 final score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Mustangs had established a 27-point advantage.

Silver Lake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaxon Tenbensel led the charge by rushing for 61 yards and three touchdowns. Tenbensel didn't just play on offense: he also made five total tackles and defended one pass. Brody Knehans did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 136 receiving yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Silver Lake proved: they limited Ansley/Litchfield to a paltry 0.4 yards per carry. While one picked up at least five total tackles, Tenbensel stood above the rest. He rushed for 61 yards and three TDs. Silver Lake didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.8.

Silver Lake's defense didn't let Owen Cunningham., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Landon Duester refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Silver Lake got some further help from Duester: he picked up 1.5 sacks, made eight total tackles, and defended one pass.

Silver Lake's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.0 points on average over those games. As for Ansley/Litchfield, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Silver Lake is taking a road trip to square off against Stuart at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ansley/Litchfield, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Medicine Valley at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th.
