Benton proved they can win big on Monday (they won by eight) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Independence Mustangs 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bobcats have posted since July 13, 2024.

Benton's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Independence, their loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-11.

Looking ahead, Benton will challenge Vinton-Shellsburg at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bobcats are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Independence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Center Point-Urbana at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Stormin' Pointers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
