Softball Recap: Tanque Verde Sets Scoring Season-High Against Mogollon

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tanque Verde). They blew past the Mogollon Mustangs 22-1 on Saturday. Considering the Hawks have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Gabby Fukunaga was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in February. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Julia Pratt and Aubrey Cantalicio did most of the damage at the plate: Pratt went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Cantalicio went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two hits gave Cantalicio a new career-high. Emily Ryan was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Tanque Verde hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in eight consecutive matches.

Tanque Verde's victory bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Mogollon, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Tanque Verde didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 13-5 win against Sunnyslope on the 22nd. As for Mogollon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 12-2 defeat against Joseph City on the 25th.
