Recap: Lecanto Panthers vs. Hernando Leopards
The Lecanto Panthers posted their biggest win since November 28, 2023 on Tuesday. They blew past Hernando 65-41. With that victory, Lecanto brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.
Leading Lecanto to victory were Ijyana Edwards and Bryleigh Florio. Edwards scored 15 points along with nine assists and six steals, while Florio scored 27 points along with seven steals. Florio is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Xena Bellamy, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Kayla Holloman and Aislin Ruppe certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Holloman scored 15 points, while Ruppe scored 13 points. That was a full 36.6% of Hernando's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The win makes it two in a row for Lecanto and bumps their season record up to 10-4. As for Hernando, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
Lecanto won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Nature Coast Tech at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th. Nature Coast Tech is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. Hernando will take on Mitchell at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
